Emmaus Cat Shop to host “unusual cats” on April 1

Purr Haus, a one-of-a-kind boutique carrying “The Best Stuff for Cats and the People Who Love Them,” will welcome several “unusual cats” for an adoption event on Saturday, April 1., 2:30 to 4:00 p.m.

The strange-looking “cats” are seeking homes through Starting Over Animal Rescue one of several local rescue organizations that team with Purr Haus to find adopters.

Purr Haus owner Laurie Mason Schroeder said she was happy to welcome the animals, even though they’re not the store’s typical visitors.

“Cats are usually sleek and quiet,”

she noted.

“These ones tend to wag their tails a lot, bark and even slobber.

But they’re really cute.”

Visitors to the shop during SOAR’s visit can take a chance at winning a $25 Purr Haus gift card by donating a bag of pet food (Blue Buffalo chicken and rice for dogs or Optimum from Pet Supplies Plus of any flavor are the preferred brands however any donation is welcome!) The winner will be drawn at the end of the event.

Purr Haus is located at 27 S. 7th Street in Emmaus, one block off Chestnut Street, behind CVS. The shop holds adoption events every Saturday and Sunday. To date, 72 cats have found their forever homes after visiting Purr Haus.

Starting Over Animal Rescue facilitates high quality affordable spay/neuter surgeries for feral, stray, and house pets and provides shelter to abused, neglected, and abandoned animals.

As an added bonus, Paul will be joined by national recording and touring artist Bret Alexander (The Badlees) for his performance! Neither Paul nor Bret are strangers to UGM, and we are thrilled to have them perform together in just a few weeks.

More from Paul DeLuca features on Underground Mi at Scranton Cultural Center

Here’s how Paul described his songwriting:
“People like to put people in boxes. Some of us refuse to stay in the confines of another person’s novel reality. That’s how I sum up my songwriting
… I wrote my first song when I was in fifth grade …
It was a pretty good Halloween tune.
Since then, I have continued to write songs. As I find my life compressed and time limited, I am sending my songs out into the world.
Last Summer I was lucky enough to have spent some time in Nashville and met some legends. I’m not saying I’m a bigger flea because I hung around bigger dogs. But, when you are sitting next to Rodney Crowell and he puts his hand on his heart and says, ‘man that song really touched my heart, good job young man,’ that’s about as high a compliment as a songwriter can get.”

‘Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back’ in Concert At Allentown Symphony Hall Conducted by Thiago Tiberio

The ALLENTOWN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA will present Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert featuring screenings of the complete film with Oscar®-winning composer John Williams’ musical score performed live to the film.

The concert will be led by acclaimed conductor Thiago Tiberio.

Since the release of the first Star Wars movie over 40 years ago, the Star Wars saga has had a seismic impact on both cinema and culture, inspiring audiences around the world with its mythic storytelling, captivating characters, groundbreaking special effects and iconic musical scores composed by Williams.

“Following our successful presentation of Star Wars: A New Hope in May 2022, the Allentown Symphony Orchestra is thrilled to be continuing the Star Wars saga at the PPL Center with The Empire Strikes Back,”
commented Allentown Symphony Executive Director Al Jacobsen.

“Last May, we received enthusiastic feedback about how amazing the Allentown Symphony Orchestra sounded. Audience members said it was just like the music in the original film and often more noticeable since the volume of the music in the film is often turned down below the dialogue and sound effects,” Jacobsen added.

The ensemble performing in the first six Star Wars films is the world-renowned London Symphony Orchestra.

Fans will be able to experience the scope and grandeur of this beloved film in a live symphonic concert experience, when Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back debuts on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2023, AT 7:30 PM.

Tickets go on sale to the public on FRIDAY, MARCH 24, 2023 AT 10:00 AM EST through the PPL Center Website: www.PPLCenter.com.

Legendary composer Williams is well known for scoring all nine of the Star Wars saga films to date, beginning with 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope for which he earned an Academy Award® for Best Original Score. His scores for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker were each nominated for Best Original Score.

Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards, five Emmy Awards and 23 Grammy Awards. With 53 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the Academy’s most nominated living person and the second most-nominated individual in history, after Walt Disney.

In 2005, the American Film Institute selected Williams’ score to 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope as the greatest American film score of all time. The soundtrack to A New Hope also was preserved by the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry, for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl’s Hall of Fame in 2000, and he received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004, the National Medal of Arts in 2009, and the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2016. Williams has composed the scores for eight of the top 20 highest-grossing films at the U.S. box office (adjusted for inflation).

Misfits Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein Heads to Sherman Theater May 7

Misfits Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein Heads to Sherman Theater May 7

Misfits guitarist Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein emerged from the fiery pits of New Jersey to bring his horror punk show to the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg on May 7.

Doyle has made his own distinct mark on the genre with the inception of his self-entitled band.  Opening the show will be Salem’s Childe, Black Dawn, Silence is Survival and Regicide.

Misfits Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein

Misfits Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein

The unmistakable sound of Doyle’s signature Annihilator guitar cuts through on every tune like a sonic fingerprint. The Annihilator’s tone is sharp as a butcher’s knife in the wrong hands and just as nasty – fans of the Misfits will recognize it right away.

Doyle lyrics are uncompromisingly dark and not for the faint of heart. There is absolutely zero attempt to balance the evil with any sort of good counterpoint. Music fans looking for feel-good anthems had best look elsewhere – those who enjoy strolling through the shadows will be greatly satisfied.

Vocalinst Alex Story of Cancerslug switches seamlessly from raw-throated roars to rough-edged, yet melodic, clean vocals. His live performances can only be described as unforgettable, disturbing, and strangely addictive – a perfect complement to the already mammoth stage presence of Doyle himself.

Misfits Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein will be at Sherman Theatre

No metal band would be complete without a complete animal behind the drum kit. Brandon “The Crusher” Pertzborn of Black Flag delivers all the aggression and insanity necessary (and then some) with his exquisite musicality and showmanship.
So what can fans expect at a Doyle show?

“To get pummeled, man. And then go home and ask themselves ‘What just happened to me?!?’, hahaha…” Doyle Wolfgang Von Frankenstein replies with a laugh that actually sounds evil. Loud, aggressive, and technically proficient, Doyle and crew are set to show the world how true horror metal sounds today.

So check out Doyle on tour, and let the beatings begin!

About the Celtic Cultural Alliance

On Columbus Day weekend in 1988, the first Celtic Classic was presented by a small group of individuals.  The goal of this dedicated group was to create an event that symbolized the Celtic spirit and history, and to provide the impetus for an organization that focused on promoting the Celtic culture. This group has now evolved into Celtic Cultural Alliance to better communicate the overall goals of the organization.

The CCA has expanded with year-round programming to support the mission of promoting and preserving Celtic Culture through arts, music, literature, dance, and history programs. In keeping with the spirit of “Next Generation”, the CCA also offers scholarships to promising young students of the Celtic Arts. These yearly scholarships are offered to students of the arts, including Irish Step Dance, Highland Dance, Fiddle, and Bagpipes.

The Celtic Classic has blossomed into one of the largest Highland Games and Celtic Festivals in North America. Annually, over 200,000 visitors come to Historic Bethlehem to join in this celebration of all things Celtic. The organization has expanded into year-round programs. Our educational programming has expanded to include community outreach events in area school districts, religious institutions, local theaters and colleges throughout the Lehigh Valley. A series of scholarships are awarded each year in varied areas of Celtic culture.
